Al WASL Sports Club - History
The club was founded in 1960 when a group of young people met in Bakhit Salem house in and decided to ESTABLISH a club named Zamalek where athletes can practice various sports and undoubtedly the most important football. Moving on from a small room to a rental house consisting from two bedroom after the significant increase of members and the popularity of this fledgling club.
The members were paying out of their own BUDGET to buy sports equipment, balls and T-shirts, then they were funded an amount of ten dirhams each member to support the club's budget. After a while the club moved to a small house owned by Sheikha Mediya Bint Sultan and the first achievement to be recorded in Al Zamalek sports history was winning the Canada Dry Cup by scoring 2/1 and the team was at the time one of the strongest teams in the second division led by Bakhit Salem as the team leader.
One of the first people to reward the team for their win of Canada Dry Cup was the late his Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum (may he rest in peace) who gave the players cash rewards and fill the cup with the best perfumes and sweets. He also motivated the team and promised them to build a club equipped with all sports facilities for them in Zabeel if they won against Ras Al Khaimah team and is the sports season of 1971 the team ended up with honorable results which led to the club with additional facilities for basketball, handball, volleyball and tennis table. And theFirst bus owned by the club was a gift from Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who was considered one of the first supporter of the team Zamalek (Al Wasl) and ever since the team progressed and accomplished many sports achievement till this day.
