AL WASL Indoor - Hand Ball
Welcome to the page for men's Team Handball at the AL WASL Sports Club. Founded in 1978, AL WASL Club's handball program has a proud and rich tradition as one of the premier club teams in the nation. The program placed first at the collegiate national championships in 2007 while coming in third in 2009 and fourth in 2011. There are currently 5 former cadets in the USA Team Handball National Pool.
Air Force plays home games in the cadet gymnasium at the Academy, which is located in Colorado Springs, CO. Much like Air Force's very successful rugby program, team handball is a Cadet Competitive Club team. While not an NCAA-sanctioned sport, the team members receive "Limited on Season (LOS) status", allowing the members of the team to participate in practices in lieu of intramurals and freshmen training, as well as and travel on the many competition trips throughout the year.
Handball as a sport has its roots in Europe, where it is currently played at the highest level. The International Handball Federation claims that except for soccer, handball is the most popular, watched, and played sport in the world. It has a a huge following in Europe as well as strong interest and participation just about everywhere else.
